What is Ionized Water and What is it Used For

If you are like most people, you have probably heard of ionized water, and like many people, you probably don’t know what it is and what differentiates this type of water from other forms of water. You might be might be in the camp that thinks the question, what is ionized water is a question that is silly to answer because, water is water right? In this particular case, that assertion might be the farthest thing from the truth.

To answer the question, what is ionized water, this form of water is regular drinking water; however, this water has been ionized. This is a process that occurs when an electrical charge is enacted within the magnesium and calcium ions in the water. Basically, what this process does is separates water into alkaline and acid fractions.

Now that the question of what is ionized water has been answered, the next question is what is ionized water good for. While there is really no empirical data to back up these claims, ionized water has been known for its increased ability to hydrate. Some suggestions claim that the ability to hydrate is increased by as much as 3 to 6 times that of non ionized water.

In addition, ionized water has been reported to act as a water based antioxidant as well. Claims have been made that drinking ionized water allows for it to neutralize free radicals in the same way an antioxidant can.

While no data or research can be found to back up these claims, as ionized water has been well used in issues of dehydration to various levels of success, it stands to reason that the claims that it provides better hydration than normal water may prove to be true. Since it is still water, there is no concern of long term issues arising like it might with an untested medication. In this case, you are drinking water, which is good for you, ionized or not!

Lastly, when the question is asked, what is ionized water, one form of water can never be ionized in distilled water. The reason for this is that distilled water, while being the purist form of water, can’t be ionized. That is because all of the minerals that are crucial in the ionization process are removed. When they are gone or greatly diminished, there can be no significant ionization.
